bestofthebest: Boldly Go Where No Pony Has Gone Before (Worried)

(The screen flickers on to show Rainbow Dash, who seemed to have a confident look on her face. For those with keen eyesight, she's shaking and trying to stay upright.)

Uh...hey! For anypony who's from Equestria, don't freak out: I AM Rainbow Dash, and it's not a dream. Some sort of weird magic has taken us from our home and changed us.

Or at least me, for some unknown reason. Oh, and I have a little guy here with me too!

CHAAAAAR! (Charmander, who had previously been napping, suddenly waves at the screen and opened his mouth to seemingly prepare for an attack.)

Ahhhh! No Blaze, don't do that! A-anyway, for anypony out there if you can find Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy just let them know I'm here. This is Rainbow Dash, and now you can return to doing whatever you were doing before.

(The screen doesn't black out totally, just moments after Rainbow's lowered the 'Gear from her face as well as her earlier facade.) What are we gonna do, Blaze? There's no way my friends are here, and even if they are I'll NEVER catch up to them with these! Why'd I lose my wings? What happened with my speed? WHAT THE HAY ARE THESE?!!

I think she's in Goldenrod with Fluttershy right now. If you're just starting off, then you've got a bit of a walk ahead of you.

[Like weeks, though he'll save the specifics for if she asks. Flare, in the mean time, snorts at the Charmander's staring. Just keep dreaming, kid. It'll happen.]

And yeah, you're a human, just like your friends. This place tends to change everyone, pony, alien, or otherwise, and it takes away your powers.

Yeah, your best bet as far as speed goes is to catch a Pokémon that can carry you at high speeds. Same goes for flying. On the upside, you can catch some flying types around New Bark Town and... heck, pretty much all the routes.

You'll just have to train them up before they can haul you anywhere.

[He grins, looking back at Flare.]

Your Charmander will end up with wings sooner or later. Just have to keep battling, and he'll get there.

Pretty much. At least, that's what I did, and it's definitely kept me busy.

[Heh. He can definitely back a competitive attitude.]

Well, first he'll become a Charmeleon-- they look kind of like Charmanders, just bigger and a bit more intimidating. Then, at level 36, he'll turn into a full-blown Charizard, wings and all.

Hey, nothing's stopping you from catching some on the way. It's safer to travel with a full party, anyway-- and that's about six.

But other than that, if you're looking for an extra Pokémon for free, the Breeding Center usually hands out freebies for new trainers.

And just call me Riku.

[Here, he'll even attach a link to their Egg Listing for her convenience.]

You can have more, you just can't take them on the road. Kind of a pain, but you get used to it after a while.

[Besides, traveling with a party of forty-eight would be insane, anyhow.]

And, yeah, the Breeding Center's got a pretty huge selection, and you might even be able to grab something that's fast and flies. I'd recommend getting something electric for good measure, if you're planning on tackling the gyms.

Glad to hear it. And if you're looking for a solid electric type right ouf of the starting gate, I'm pretty sure you can find Shinx in Cherrygrove. Think electrically charged lions.

There's also Mareep up past Violet. They're sheep Pokémon that get pretty durable when they evolve, but they're kind of on the slow side.

Well, it never hurts to have both. Different Pokémon have different strengths, after all. Sometimes bulk works where speed won't.

[Hmm, let's see. Other bits of sage wisdom he could share...]

Also, if you want the HM that lets you ride flying Pokémon, your best bet's to hitch a train ride to Saffron once you reach Goldenrod. Most people will tell you to go to Cianwood City, but Saffron's just a few hours away. It's just more practical to take a shortcut.

You can come and go whenever you want, once you grab a pass and get the HM. I personally prefer Kanto, but I know your friends are probably busy with Johto right now.

Wouldn't be too hard. I run a Training Center up in Celadon, so when I'm not traveling, I usually just hang around town.

But right now I have to grab some friends in Cianwood, meaning a) I'm stuck in Johto for a bit and b) I have to head all the way out to sea.
